553rd Grenadier Division

The 553rd Grenadier Division was a German infantry division during World War II . The division was set up on July 11, 1944 at the Münsingen military training area. On July 27, 1944, the division was renamed the 562nd Grenadier Division. A few months later, on October 9, 1944, the division was renamed the 553rd Volks-Grenadier-Division . In September 1944 the unit was destroyed near Nancy in Lorraine .
