576th People's Grenadier Division

The 576th Volksgrenadier Division was a major combat unit of the German Wehrmacht during World War II .

Mission history

The division was formed on August 25, 1944 in the 32nd wave of formation near Tyrnau in western Slovakia from the remnants of the destroyed 271st Infantry Division . Still in the formation phase, the division was renamed on September 17, 1944 into the not yet established 271st People's Grenadier Division .
