Oak leaves for the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross

Award overview 1940–1945. A total of 863 oak arbors (including without numbering) were awarded to members of the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS and foreign nationals.

The following overview contains all 863 (including the eight foreign as well as the withdrawal of No. 157) mentioned in the literature bearers of the oak leaves for the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross . The minimum requirement for being awarded the oak leaves was the previous award of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Skipping the steps was not permitted. In the course of the awarding of the oak leaves, the knight's cross was therefore not awarded again, but instead only the oak leaves and a new collar in a box and a second piece of the oak leaves for front use. In 1945, five years after the foundation of the oak leaves, the oak leaves were awarded 168 times during the last months of the war to members of the army, the air force, the navy and the Waffen SS. The last official award took place on May 5, 1945. Overall, the Oak Leaves for the Knight's Cross was awarded a total of 863 times within the associations of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS from 1940 to 1945 , whereby the consecutive numbering ended with 843. The falling numbers of awards to members of the Luftwaffe, which fell into Hitler's disgrace in 1945, as well as the enormous increase in awards to members of the army are striking.

A total of 39 people are affected by the falsification of the history of the "Order of the Knight's Cross" (OdR) . Of these, 13 real oak leaf bearers (here marked in yellow ) have been given a freely invented award number. 26 people (14 army, 2 air force, 1 navy and 9 Waffen-SS) were declared as false oak leaf bearers. Alleged awards after May 9, 1945 are not included in this list, as they are undoubtedly ineffective due to the unconditional surrender of May 8, 1945.

General of the Waffen SS Gille, Kom. Gen. IV. SS Pz. K. and through the Div. Kdr. SS-Oberführer Ullrich in front of his regiment in Hungary. ”Award number“ 844 ”and award date were determined by OdR.

Duke in Courland. B. did not specify a date. Allegedly there are photos that show him with the oak leaves. The OdR accepts a direct award from Berlin. The award date is also an acceptance of the OdR. Awarding the oak leaves four to five weeks after the knight's cross would be extremely unusual. There are a number of award proposals in the Federal Archives that had been rejected because the nominees had only received a very high award a few months earlier. Brandner was an OdR member.
