The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross
Award overview 1939–1945

The following overview contains all 145 awards of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross mentioned in the literature to members of the submarine weapon of the Navy from September 1939 to May 1945. It also includes the award of any higher levels of the Knight's Cross. So 28 members of the submarine weapon later received the oak leaves for the knight's cross, five the swords and three the diamonds. Due to the stricter award guidelines, the knight's cross within the submarine weapon was awarded proportionally less often than with other branches of the army.

39 bearers of the Knight's Cross fell or died in an accident († marked in gray) by the end of the war, including 4 bearers of oak leaves. 71 returned to civilian life after the war. 37 bearers of the Knight's Cross later served in the German Armed Forces, the German Navy or the Federal Border Police (here marked in yellow ). Nobody later served in the GDR People's Navy .
