Weymouth and Portland was an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Dorset in England until 2019 . It consisted of the town of Weymouth , the villages of Preston , Melcombe Regis , Upwey , Broadwey , Fortuneswell and Easton and the Isle of Portland Peninsula . The administrative seat was Weymouth.
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Boroughs Weymouth and Melcombe Regis and the Urban District Portland. On April 1, 2019, the district became part of the new Dorset Unitary Authority .
