North Dorset was a district in the county of Dorset in England until 2019 . The administrative seat was Blandford Forum ; other significant places were Charlton Marshall , Child Okeford , Gillingham , Marnhull , Motcombe , Shaftesbury , Stalbridge , Sturminster Newton and Tarrant Monkton .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the municipal boroughs Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury and the rural districts of Blandford, Shaftesbury and Sturminster. On April 1, 2019, the district became part of the new Dorset Unitary Authority .
