East Dorset was a district in the county of Dorset in England until 2019 . The administrative seat was Wimborne Minster ; other significant places were Alderholt , Colehill , Corfe Mullen , Ferndown , Sturminster Marshall , Verwood , West Moors and West Parley .

The District was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the Urban District Wimbourne Minster, the Rural District Wimbourne and Cranbourne and part of the Rural District Ringwood and Fordingbridge. On April 1, 2019, the district became part of the new Dorset Unitary Authority .
