Until 2019, Purbeck was a district in the county of Dorset in England that was named after the Isle of Purbeck peninsula . The administrative seat was Wareham .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Municipal Borough Wareham, the Urban District Swanage and the Rural District Wareham and Purbeck. On April 1, 2019, the district became part of the new Dorset Unitary Authority .
