U 565 was a German Type VII C submarine of the German Navy that was used in World War II.
history
The boat was put into service on April 10, 1941 by Oblt.zS Johann Jebsen . U 565 belonged to the 1st U-Flotilla from April 10 to December 31, 1941. It was used as a training boat until June, after which it was used as a front boat. From January 1, 1942, the boat was part of the 29th U-Flotilla. On March 17, 1942, Captain Wilhelm Franken took over the boat. From October 8, 1943, Kptlt. Fritz Henning commanded U 565 until it scuttled. During his service, U 565 wore various designs as coats of arms and malings on the tower. In addition to a roller-skating rat or a courting grouse, the boat temporarily carried a kneeling donkey as a reminiscence of the flotilla sign of the 29th U-Flotilla, to which it belonged from January 1942. The crew wore the lettering FDU Bayern as a hat badge .
