On October 15, 1942, U 627 ran out of Kiel for its only mission. During this venture there was no enemy contact. On October 27, the boat was sighted south of Iceland by the crew of a British B-17 Flying Fortress and attacked with depth charges.

Downfall

U 627 was attacked with depth charges on October 27, 1942 by a British B-17 Flying Fortress belonging to the 206th Squadron of the Royal Air Force - belonging to the escort of convoy SC 105 . The Flying Fortress threw seven depth charges into the vortex that the submarine had left behind when it descended. After the detonations subsided, a large puddle of oil appeared. U 627 sank at position 59 ° 14 ′  N , 22 ° 49 ′  W south-southwest of Iceland. His entire crew went down with the boat.
