Hans Zorn

Hans Zorn (born October 27, 1891 in Munich , † August 2, 1943 near Orjol , Soviet Union ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the infantry in World War II .

Life

Zorn visited the Bavarian Cadet Corps from 1905 to July 1911 and was then transferred as an ensign to the 2nd Infantry Regiment "Crown Prince" of the Bavarian Army . With the regiment he took part in the First World War as a lieutenant . In the course of the war, Zorn was used as a first lieutenant and also as a brigade adjutant. After the end of the war he worked in the Bavarian War Ministry , was then accepted into the provisional Reichswehr and deployed in the Reichswehr Rifle Regiment 41. From 1921 to 1924, Zorn completed his assistant leadership training and was promoted to captain on December 1, 1922 . He then served in the staff of the 19th (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment in Munich . In 1925 Zorn was transferred for one year to the Army Transport Department (T 7) of the Troops Office in the Reichswehr Ministry and was then chief of the 8th ( MG ) company in the 20th (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment . Zorn returned to the staff service in 1927 and worked on the staff of the 7th (Bavarian) Division until 1929 . Then he took over the 4th (MG) company of the 19th (Bavarian) Infantry Regiment. With his promotion to major on February 1, 1931, he was transferred to the Army Department (T 1) of the Troop Office in Berlin.

After Zorn was promoted to colonel on August 1, 1936 , he was in command of the 19th Infantry Regiment from May 1, 1938 to August 26, 1939.

With the beginning of the Second World War he was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the XXII. Army Corps and promoted to major general on July 1, 1940 . From November 10, 1940 to January 12, 1942 he was commander of the 20th Infantry Division . Promoted to lieutenant general, he then took over the leadership of the XXXX. Panzer Corps and the XXXII. Army Corps . On June 1, 1942, Zorn was promoted to general of the infantry. During the war against the Soviet Union , he was commanding general of the XXXXVI. Panzer Corps . During the fighting south of Oryol wrath fell at Krasnaya Rostocha. Posthumously on September 3, 1943, he was awarded the oak leaf (291st award) for the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
