Heinrich-Walter Wilhelm Ernst Wiwigen's Konrad Bronsart von Schellendorff (born September 21, 1906 in Neustrelitz ; † September 22, 1944 Dieuze near Metz ) was a German officer, most recently major general in World War II .

Life

origin

Heinrich-Walter Bronsart von Schellendorff came from the old Prussian noble and officer family Bronsart von Schellendorff . His father, Heinrich Diomed Bronsart von Schellendorff (1873-1942), was a cousin of Bernhard Bronsart von Schellendorff and Friedrich Bronsart von Schellendorf .

Military career

Bronsart of Schellendorff joined as a cadet in 1924 in the 6th (Prussian) Reiter Regiment in Pasewalk the Reichswehr at. He went through an officer training in the cavalry and was taken over as Rittmeister in the Wehrmacht in 1935 , but remained with the 6th Cavalry Regiment, the successor unit of the 6th Cavalry Regiment, until 1939.

He was wounded several times during World War II. With the beginning of the Second World War he was in the reconnaissance department 179 of the 79th Infantry Division . From November 1939 he was first in command of reconnaissance department 36, which was first used in France from 1940 and in the Baltic States and northern Russia from 1941 , and then from March 1942 in the rank of major ; Promotion in January 1940; in the same position with the motorbike rifle department 36 of the 36th Infantry Division also in Northern Russia. In 1942 he received the German Cross in Gold for his service as commander. From February 1943, at the same time as his promotion to lieutenant colonel , he was commander of the 13th Panzer Grenadier Regiment in the 5th Panzer Division until spring 1944 . From the end of 1943, he was now in the rank of colonel , in addition to commanding the 5th Panzer Division for one month. In the spring of 1944 he was ordered to Germany and transferred to the staff of the OKHs . From August 1944 he took part in a division leader course in Hirschberg. From the beginning of September 1944 he was in command of the newly established Panzer Brigade 111 of the 15th Panzer Grenadier Division on the Western Front .

He was posthumously promoted to major general.
