Alfred Druschel

Alfred Druschel (born February 4, 1917 in Bindsachsen ; † January 1, 1945 near Aachen ) was a German Air Force officer (most recently a colonel ) in World War II and holder of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .

Military career

In 1936 Alfred Druschel joined the Luftwaffe and was an observer in the combat squadron as a lieutenant in 1938. For a short time he served in the staff department as an orderly officer . Then he was transferred to the first attack pilot group of the Air Force II. (Battle) / LG 2. He experienced numerous missions in Poland and flew some missions against French armored forces at Cambrai . After the battle for France was decided, he fought with the Henschel Hs 123 in the air battles in England, in the Balkans and in the Soviet Union. He carried out his missions both as a lone fighter and as a squadron captain .

In January 1942 Druschel took over the I. / Schlachtgeschwader 1 . In February he had his 600th flight, and in January 1943 his 800th flight with enemy contact. During his service in Křeč (Czech Republic), Ukraine and the Caucasus in September 1942 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and on February 19, 1943 with swords.

On June 11, 1943, Druschel became a squadron commodore . His squadron was disbanded in October 1943 and he was ordered to the staff of General der Attack Aircraft Hitschhold as stage manager of the day battle , where he was promoted to colonel in 1944. In the course of the Ardennes offensive , it was shot down on January 1, 1945 at the “ Operation Bodenplatte ” attack on Allied airfields near Aachen .
