Lothar Berger
Lothar Hermann Sylvester Berger (born December 31, 1900 in Halberstadt , † November 5, 1971 in Bad Schwartau ) was a German major general .
Life
Born as the son of a senior physician , Berger took part in the First World War as an ensign in the 3rd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 66 and was wounded. In 1919 he became a member of the Iron Division , Freikorps Riekhoff , in the Baltic States . He studied mathematics and physics in Halle , where he became a member of the Alemannia auf dem Pflug fraternity in 1920 . From 1921 until 1923 he was chairman of the student body and the German Art Association in Halle. From 1924 he was a professional soldier in the Reichswehr - . Regiment 12 and was then from 1935 captain and company commander in the re-established third Magdeburg Infantry Regiment 66th . At times he was employed as a military attaché to the King of Romania . He participated in World War II from 1939 to 1945 and was seriously wounded. Most recently he was major general as division commander of the 208th Infantry Division , then the 251st Infantry Division and finally the 75th Infantry Division in Mecklenburg . From 1945 to 1946 he was first a Soviet and then a British prisoner of war . Released, he moved to Marksteft, then to Aschaffenburg . He worked as an entrepreneur and became a board member of the European Union in Bonn. After a serious illness, he moved to Göttingen in 1961 , then to Bad Schwartau in 1970 , where he died a year later.
