Friedrich Wiese (General)

Friedrich Wiese (born December 5, 1892 in Nordhastedt , † February 13, 1975 in Gießen ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the infantry in World War II .

Life

Wiese served as an officer in the First World War . After the war he switched to the police force . During the Second World War he was in command of the 26th Infantry Division (April 15, 1942 to August 5, 1943). Friedrich Wiese later headed the XXXV as commanding general . Army Corps .

In June 1944 he took over the command of the 19th Army in southern France . After the Allied landing near Toulon (August 1944), his troops had to retreat north through the Rhone Valley . Between September and November 1944 his army was able to hold out in eastern Burgundy and the Vosges , but was then pushed back to the Upper Rhine by the 7th US Army . General von Wiese was then relieved and transferred to the Führer reserve. On March 19, 1945 he was given command of the VIII Army Corps in the 17th Army in Silesia for a month . On April 6th, he took over command of the XI. Army corps , with which he had to capitulate to the Soviet troops in the Olomouc area at the end of the war .
