Meinrad von Lauchert

Meinrad von Lauchert (born August 29, 1905 in Potsdam , † December 4, 1987 in Stuttgart ) was a major general in the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War .

Life

Von Lauchert joined the Reichswehr as an officer candidate in 1924 and served in the 5th (Prussian) cavalry regiment . From October 15, 1935 to November 10, 1938 he was a company commander in an anti-tank battalion. He was then used until October 1939 as chief of the 2nd Company of the 35th Panzer Regiment of the 4th Panzer Division . With the outbreak of the Second World War he became the commander of the 1st battalion of his regiment, with which he took part in the Russian campaign. For his achievements he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on September 8, 1941.

On August 1, 1943, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . From August 7, 1943 to August 1, 1944 he was commander of the 15th Panzer Regiment of the 11th Panzer Division . On February 1, 1944, he was promoted to colonel .

In the early autumn of 1944 Lauchert was assigned as commander of the 101st Panzer Brigade in the 1st Army Corps of the 16th Army in Army Group North . During this time the brigade was also known as the Panzer Verband Lauchert . After fighting in Estonia, they withdrew through Lithuania to the Tilsit area in East Prussia .

On December 15, 1944, he was given command of the 2nd Panzer Division and took part in the Battle of the Bulge with it. Shortly before the end of the war, on March 1, 1945, he was promoted to major general. On March 19, 1945, he was taken prisoner by the French, from which he was released in 1947.

In 1965 von Lauchert worked as a technical advisor for the film The Last Battle .
