Walter Gorn

Walter Gorn (born September 24, 1898 in Bieganin, Pleschen district , † July 10, 1968 in Rosenheim ) was a German officer , most recently major general in World War II .

Life

Gorn joined the Grenadier Regiment "King Wilhelm I." (2nd West Prussian) No. 7 on November 14, 1916 during the First World War . On July 6, 1917, he was transferred to the replacement machine-gun company of the 5th Army Corps and from there on August 19, 1917, he was transferred to the 1st heavy machine-gun company of Landsturm Infantry Regiment No. 36. Gorn remained with the unit beyond the end of the war and was transferred to the 2nd Company of the 18 Volunteer Regiment on December 18, 1918. There he was to be promoted to corporal on April 16 and to non-commissioned officer on September 7, 1919 . Shortly afterwards, on September 20, 1919, he was released from military service.

On June 1, 1920, he joined the Wroclaw Police Department as a police sergeant.

Gorn joined the army as a captain on October 15, 1935, and as such became chief of the 5th company of the 3rd motorbike battalion.

Commands in World War II

With the German surrender on May 8, 1945, Gorn became a prisoner of war in the United States , from which he was released on June 16, 1947.
