history
The division was set up in May 1941 as part of the 15th wave of deployment as a ground-based infantry division from replacement troops from Wehrkreis X (Hamburg) . In June / July 1941 she was first assigned to the Norwegian Army Command and from August to the LXX. Subordinated to the Army Corps and was entrusted as an occupation division with coastal protection tasks in southern Norway in the 235 km long Arendal coast in the provinces of Aust-Agder , Vestfold og Telemark and Viken .
The division was stationed in Norway until the end of 1944 before being withdrawn from Scandinavia and relocated to Italy . The arrival in Northern Italy was delayed due to Allied air raids on the Brenner Railway .
At the beginning of January 1945 it was subordinate to the LXXXVII. Army Corps of Army Group C and stood north of Ravenna near Lake Comacchio, initially facing the II. Canadian Corps and later the Italian Combat Group Cremona. At the beginning of February she was replaced by the 114th Jäger Division , which took over the narrow strip of land between Lake Comacchio and the Adriatic Sea from the 710th.
The division was then deployed in the Adriatic Coastal Operation Zone in the area between Palmanova and Udine . At the beginning of April 1945 she was transferred to the Eastern Front in Hungary to strengthen Army Group South in the fight against the Red Army .
In May 1945, the unit moved within the corps group Bünau into the room Pölten Sankt by Austria back and surrendered there, the US Army .
