Traugott Herr (born September 16, 1890 in Weferlingen ; † April 13, 1976 in Achterwehr ) was a German officer , most recently a general of the armored forces in World War II .

Life

On February 1, 1927, he became chief of the 4th MG Company of the 9th Infantry Regiment. He kept this command until he switched to the infantry school in Dresden on July 1, 1933. During the fighting in the North Caucasus on October 31, 1942, he suffered a severe head injury from shrapnel, which would affect him for life. After his stay in the hospital he was first transferred to the Fuehrer's reserve, promoted to Lieutenant General on December 1, 1942 , and assigned to Army Group D in France on June 15, 1943 . There he was on June 29, 1943 with the leadership of the LXXVI. Army Corps commissioned on July 22nd in LXXVI. Panzer Corps was renamed.

Herr received his promotion to general of the armored troops and at the same time was appointed commanding general of the LXXVI. Panzer Corps on September 1, 1943. From February 28 to April 16, 1944, he briefly gave up his command. On November 24, 1944, he was assigned to lead the 14th Army . He underwent another head operation on December 4, which was necessary because of the wound he had suffered on October 31, 1942. After recovery and reassignment to the Führerreserve, he was assigned on February 15, 1945 to lead the 10th Army . With this he capitulated on May 2, 1945 in Italy and went into British captivity , from which he was released on May 17, 1948.
