Werner Niebel (born June 4, 1928 in Unterbreizbach ; † January 9, 2018 ) was a German football player . For FSV Frankfurt , the native Thuringian played a total of 294 games in the football league south between 1950 and 1962 . He had previously been active for KSV Hessen Kassel . In 1953 he played under national coach Sepp Herberger once in the German B national team .

career

Around 1950/51, the attacker from Hessen Kassel from the Hessian amateur league came to the Bornheimer Hang for FSV Frankfurt. He made his debut on August 20, 1950 in the away game against VfB Mühlburg in the Oberliga Süd. He stormed in the 5-1 loss on the left wing. Teammates were goalkeeper Willi Rado , left defender Otto Dehm , right wing runner Philipp Nold and international striker Richard Herrmann . Overall, he came in his first league season on 17 missions and scored three goals. The FSV came in fifth and was three places ahead of Eintracht. In his second season in the black and blue FSV dress, 1951/52, he was first used as a left defender in the then practiced World Cup system . In his third season with the team from Bornheim, 1952/53, he became a regular player. Niebel completed all 30 league games and scored two goals for his club in the Oberliga Süd. National coach Sepp Herberger brought him on March 22, 1953, it was the fifth official B-international game in the history of the DFB, in Vienna in the international game against Austria in the German B-Elf as a left defender. Immediately before his appointment to the DFB, he played a goalless 0-0 draw against SpVgg Fürth with FSV on March 15, and on March 29, after the international match in Vienna, he won the second home game with FSV against Ulm 1846 with 4 : 1 goals. The international B match was lost with 1: 3 goals, despite the prominence in the attack with Felix Gerritzen , Alfred Preißler , Willi Schröder , Franz Islacker ( Rolf Blessing ) and Bernhard Termath .
