Werner Pfeffer

Werner Pfeffer (* 1951 in Linz ) is an Austrian installation artist , creative consultant and event manager .

After attending the Bundesrealgymnasium Linz Fadingerstraße , Pfeffer studied technical mathematics at the technical and natural science faculty of the University of Linz and graduated as a graduate engineer.

In 1984 he founded the group SWAP with Sam Auinger in Linz (the first letters of the two artists and at the same time the English word for exchange ). In the jointly set up studio, audiovisual works and audio images are created on samplers or keyboards on their computers. With self-constructed multimedia module systems they build installations with which the art-interested audience can arrange pieces with music, light effects and image animations themselves. For the Kunstradio the Radio Institute Ö1 arranged pepper among other 1998 CD Oars with Ears ( rudder with ears ), which at the Junior World Championships in rowing originated. The audio image contained rowing noises and other original sounds that were recorded during the regatta and served as the source material for fifteen soundtracks.

In 1986, Pfeffer and Auinger produced, staged and arranged the music for a performance by the Swap Art Orchestra for the ars electronica program . In 2008 he created the concept, the visualization and directed the Visualized Linzer Klangwolke , which was performed in the Danube Park of Linz in front of almost 100,000 visitors.

In 2009 Linz was the European Capital of Culture . Pfeffer was a consultant for the art program and at the same time, along with Pipilotti Rist , Roman Signer and Erwin Wurm , participating artists at Linz 2009 - European Capital of Culture His sound / image installation Stadtmensch on the roof walkway called “Höhenrausch” received attention in the national press.

Pfeffer accompanies companies such as Porsche Austria, Bank Austria, Wiener Börse, Linz AG and Lexmark in innovative and creative processes and designs and stages company events. He describes himself as a master of ceremonies . He is married to the Danish author Sonja Holm (* 1967), with whom he works artistically and who wrote the text for Heart Flow , among other things .
