Werner Ranck
Werner Ranck (* 25. October 1904 in Hamburg , † 7. December 1989 ) was a German officer , last lieutenant general in the Second World War , the commander of the 121st Infantry Division that on March 2, 1945 Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross had received .
Life
Ranck joined the Reichswehr in 1924. With the beginning of the Second World War he worked as a general staff officer , first as second general staff officer (Ib) in the Xth Army Corps , then as third general staff officer (Ic) in the 11th Army and finally from 1943 as chief of staff in the Xth Army Corps. In the last weeks of the war he still led the 218th Infantry Division until the surrender in the Kurland pocket . Ranck was held in Soviet captivity until 1955.
