Werner Schlierf (born May 17, 1936 in Munich , † March 1, 2007 in Kirchheim near Munich ) was a German writer .

Life

In 1959 Schlierf became Bavaria's youngest master optician and went into business for himself in 1960 in Munich- Giesing . 1961 to 1962 he attended the master school for painters and gilders . He then studied optometry in Berlin from 1967 to 1969 and graduated with a degree in “contact lens specialist”.

As early as 1960 he began to write poems, stories, novels and plays. Some pieces have been translated into English, French, Italian and Russian. The preferred topic was the post-war period.

In addition to Munich, there were theater performances at the Stadttheater Meran (1983, Kehrum-Serum), Off-Broadway New York (1985, Joe & Marianne), in Kharkov in the Ukraine (1998, Joe & Marianne) and at the Volksbühne Bozen (2006, Traumfetzn). Many of his plays have been broadcast on both radio and television. With Franz Seitz he wrote the screenplay for the film " Big Mäc " with Thomas Gottschalk in the leading role.

Werner Schlierf was also successful as a painter. His pictures and paintings have not only been shown in numerous exhibitions, but also published in books.

Werner Schlierf became a member of the “Seerose” artists' group, the Association of German Writers (VS), the Munich Tower Writers and the international PEN Club . He was married and had two sons.

Part of his estate is in the Monacensia literary archive . With a city council resolution of July 7, 2011, a street in Munich / Obergiesing - Fasangarten between Spixstraße and Weißenseestraße was named after him.

On May 21, 2016, the Werner-Schlierf-Year in Giesing opened on Werner-Schlierf-Straße. On the occasion of his 80th birthday in the same year, his work was again made available to a wider public in over 15 events. There were readings, exhibitions, discussions with contemporary witnesses and tours through Obergiesing to and about Werner Schlierf.
