Werner Seifert (politician)

Werner Seifert (born May 18, 1920 in Plauen ; † September 29, 2000 ) was a German functionary of the GDR block party DBD . He was a member of the State Council of the GDR .

Life

Seifert, the son of a working-class family, completed an apprenticeship as a gardener between 1934 and 1937 . From 1937 to 1954 he worked as a gardener's assistant and as an independent gardener. He did military service in World War II .

In 1948 he joined the Democratic Peasant Party of Germany (DBD) and was a full-time DBD functionary from 1954. At times he was deputy chairman of the Zwickau district board and department head in the DBD district board of Karl-Marx-Stadt . From 1949 to 1954 he was a member of the Zwickau district assembly, from 1954 to 1971 a member of the Karl-Marx-Stadt district assembly and, at times, deputy chairman of the agriculture commission at the district assembly . In 1959/1960 he studied at the institute for the training of functionaries for socialist agriculture in Schwerin and completed his studies as a state-certified farmer.

From 1959 he acted as secretary, from 1962 as deputy chairman and from 1965 to 1987 as chairman of the DBD district board of Karl-Marx-Stadt. From 1968 to 1987 he was also a member of the DBD party executive committee and from 1980 to 1987 the presidium of the party executive committee.

From 1971 to 1986 he was a member of the People's Chamber . From 1971 to 1976 he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, from 1976 to 1981 Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Rules of Procedure and from 1981 to 1986 Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. From 1979 to 1986 Seifert was also a member of the State Council of the GDR.

In the course of 1986 and 1987 Seifert resigned from all of his functions for health reasons.
