Thousandfold is a song and the single release by the Swiss pagan / folk metal band Eluveitie from the album Everything Remains as It Never Was . The single was released in Europe on February 16, 2010 through Nuclear Blast .

History of origin

Like the rest of the album Everything Remains as It Never Was , Thousandfold was recorded in various studios between September and October 2009. It was the last song written for the album. Glanzmann completed it the day before the studio recordings began. The song Thousandfold and the accompanying video clip were first published on December 23, 2009 on Eluveitie's Myspace profile.

A few days beforehand, the band launched a competition to design the cover. The winner was announced on January 4th, 2010. The band opted for the artwork by a Max from Russia. It shows some Roman legionaries riding through a mist-shrouded landscape. The singer and frontman of the band Chrigel Glanzmann commented on the competition as follows:

“We are completely out of our socks, as many of you took part in our contest, just unbelievable! It was really great to receive tons of incredibly good and original artwork, so it wasn't an easy decision for us. Above all, we would like to thank and congratulate the winner of the competition - and of course we greet and thank everyone who took part in the contest! "

- Chrigel Glanzmann

style

music

The song is a combination of Pagan and Melodic Death Metal . A variety of instruments were used. In addition to the typical instruments of a metal band such as electric guitar, electric bass and drums, violin, hurdy-gurdy , bagpipe , flute, uilleann pipes and a mandola or mandolin were also used. The singing is shaped by Chrigel Glanzmann's Screaming . According to Metal-Hammer author Marc Halupczok , the song arouses associations with Inis Mona and he compares the song with the later works of Gorefest .

text

The text is only written in English . Chrigel Glanzmann explained the content as follows:

“Thousandfold” is about the dazzling figure of Orgetorix , a Swiss prince and freedom fighter who lived during the Gallic War. The text questions the “official version” of the events that were later recorded by the Roman emperor ( Gaius Iulius Caesar ) in “ De bello Gallico ”, which can primarily be described as political propaganda. We tried to imagine what could really have happened. "

- Chrigel Glanzmann

Music video

The music video for Thousandfold was shot in autumn 2009 by the renowned Polish film crew Grupa 13 , which has also produced music videos for Behemoth , Sonata Arctica , Amon Amarth and others. The open-air museum of the Opole village in Opole was chosen as the filming location . The location was chosen by the film crew and suggested by the band. Chrigel Glanzmann commented on the video clip to the Metal Hammer with the words "[v] iel better there is no visual implementation of an Eluveitie song."
