criticism
The album received mostly good reviews from the trade press and was also praised for its authenticity. For example, wrong tones were not removed digitally, but simply left, resulting in "a credible live document".
Alexander Eitner from the webzine metalnews.de wrote a review of the Slania Tour Edition and came to the following conclusion regarding the bonus CD Live @ Metalcamp 2008 :
“The band presents itself [on Live @ Metalcamp 2008] well-coordinated and, above all, equipped with a really good sound, because especially with such a large troupe and many acoustic instruments used, the concert inevitably stands and falls with them Sound. Fortunately, ELUVEITIE have no problems at all, as all instruments come into their own and the songs on offer can develop well. In general, ELUVEITIE are extremely personable and authentic, while they also do without lengthy announcements, but just play one bang after the other.
The 'Slania Tour Edition' is [...] quite simply a must-buy, especially since the live record comes as a bonus. A great thing [and] a very successful concert recording [...] "
Steve from metal.de praised the successful production and wrote about the album:
“The sound is pretty clear, [despite the studio post-production] [but] the live atmosphere also comes across well and exudes a real concert feeling. The audience goes along very well, which was captured in the recording. All in all, an intelligent compromise was found between authenticity and modern sound ideas.
'Live @ Metalcamp 2008' is a successful live album that Eluveitie fans should definitely call their own. "
Manuel Liebler wrote a somewhat cautious review for the Metal Hammer , despite the 5 out of 7 points awarded by the entire editorial team. He criticized the small print run of 500 copies and the fact that Eluveitie released a live album after just two studio albums. He concluded his review with the conclusion:
“[D] en Alpine countries [succeeded] impressively at the Metalcamp [...] in fusing melodic Gothenburg death lead and traditional Celtic folk tunes in an effective way. Admittedly, real surprises are few and far between. Except maybe the realization that in principle we can all be bought. It just depends on the price. "
