Werner Umberg

Werner Umberg (born March 30, 1943 ) is a German actor .

Life

Werner Umberg left school and his parents' house in 1961 at the age of 18. In the following years he kept himself afloat with a variety of odd jobs. He worked as a drugstore salesman in Paris, as a language teacher in London and as a film extra in the Cinecittà studios in Rome .

Umberg then came to film in the mid-1960s. In the television series Jörg Preda told , a series about the adventurous travel journalist Jörg Preda ( Pinkas Braun ), which was broadcast from 1966 with 13 episodes in 25-minute format in some regional early evening programs of the ARD , he was in several episodes as Preda's " Sidekick " Polon with them. The director Rudolf Thome , one of the representatives of the New German Cinema , cast Umberg for his author's film Fremde Stadt (1972). Umberg also worked in two episodes of the popular ZDF crime series Der Kommissar in 1973/74 , where he was seen in small roles alongside film and television stars such as Erik Ode , Ruth Leuwerik , Michael Ande and Marianne Hoppe .

Umberg had his breakthrough as an actor with the role of the "handsome and adventurous" Prince Bekeczy in the German-Hungarian-French adventure series Arpad, the Gypsies , which was broadcast from 1973–1974; Umberg played the ally of the "charming and fiery" gypsy Árpád.

Due to the success of the Arpad series, Umberg also received two more cinema engagements in the course of the “renaissance of Heimatfilms” in the 1970s: In Der Jäger von Fall (1974) he played the hunting assistant Hias; the following year he was in Der Edelweißkönig (1975) the forest assistant Gidi.

Umberg was married to the Austrian actress Gerlinde Döberl . The wedding took place in July 1973 in the castle chapel of Amerang Castle , near Wasserburg am Inn ; the couple met in November 1972 in Munich. The marriage was later divorced.

Umberg withdrew from the film business in the mid-1970s. Nothing is publicly known about Umberg's further life. He later worked as a businessman in Berlin ; he still lived there in 2007.
