Werner Wüthrich (born June 14, 1947 in Ittigen ( BE )) is a Swiss writer , playwright and Brecht researcher .

Life

Werner Wüthrich was born into a farming family; After primary and secondary school in Ittigen and Bolligen , he graduated from the natural science high school in Bern in 1967 . In the following four years he studied theater studies , German literature and philosophy at the University of Vienna and finished his studies in 1974 with the dissertation Bertolt Brecht's admission to Switzerland .

Werner Wüthrich has been working as a freelance playwright and writer since 1972. For his work he was honored with several awards for his commitment to “inciting language” and for his complete work, including the Doron Prize in 2004 .

Werner Wüthrich has worked as a playwright, production dramaturge and dramaturgical advisor at the Theater am Neumarkt Zurich , the Dramatic Center Vienna , the Theater 1230 Bern and the Deutsches Theater Berlin . From 1985 to 2001 Wüthrich was a member of the jury for the literary prize “Work and Everyday Life”, member of the board of the “ Olten Group ” and from 1996 to 2002 President of the Schlachthaus Theater Bern.

Works

Wüthrich, with his prose Landflucht (1979), Vom Land (1990), Die they called Bauern (2009) and Frauen Land Frauen (2011), is considered a pioneer of a new peasant literature in the German-speaking world. He is also one of the internationally renowned exile literature and Brecht researchers. In addition to numerous publications with a focus on exile theater and Bertolt Brecht, Wüthrich is active as a lecturer and curator of exhibitions and as a scientific advisory board.
