societies

Werner Widmayer's steep career began at the age of ten with the Kieler Sportvereinigung Holstein von 1900 eV. His imaginative game received regular applause and quickly became a fan favorite. A real all-rounder emerged, because in addition to football he played tennis and table tennis very successfully, but he was nowhere better than in football. As the youngest player in the squad of the men's upper league team from Holstein Kiel, he won the North German soccer runner-up in 1929, only to become North German champion the following year. A total of 16 times he was appointed to the North German selection. The successes in 1929 meant the entry into the finals of the German football championship of 1930: In a memorable final, Werner Widmayer scored the opening goal for Kiel in the 4th minute. The game on June 22, 1930 in the Düsseldorf Rheinstadion ended in front of 40,000 spectators with a 5-4 win for Hertha BSC . With his 5 goals in the championship round, Werner Widmayer, behind Josef Schmitt (1. FC Nürnberg) with 7 goals and Willi Kirsei (Hertha BSC) with 6 goals, shot himself to third place on the scorers list.
