Werner Zech

Werner Zech (born February 25, 1895 in Stuttgart ; † October 6, 1981 there ) was a German major general in the Air Force in World War II .

Life

Zech joined the imperial army on June 25, 1913 and served in the infantry . After the beginning of the First World War he switched to artillery and later to the air force where he also ended the war. Then he went back to the infantry, before he was released from the provisional Reichswehr on December 31, 1920 and began studying which he completed on June 22, 1923 as a graduate engineer .

On June 1, 1934, he joined the newly founded Air Force as a captain and took on a job in the Reich Aviation Ministry . He then switched to the Air Force Technical School in Jüterbog on June 19, 1934 , where he served as course director. After he was promoted to major on January 1, 1935 , he took part in a course for reactivated officers in Königsbrück from February 2, 1935. Then he returned to Jüterbog. From January 13, 1936 he was deployed in quick succession with the Faßberg, Neubrandenburg and Schwäbisch Hall aviation groups, the latter as a squadron captain . Then he took over as group commander of the III. Group of Kampfgeschwader 155, which was renamed III./KG 157 in April 1938 and III./Kampfgeschwader 76 on May 1, 1939 . He then returned to the Reich Aviation Ministry on September 1, 1939, and was promoted to colonel on September 1, 1940 . On January 17, 1943, he took over as commander of the 1st Flieger-Division, which was subordinate to Luftflotte 6 in the central section of the Eastern Front, but from April 15th he switched directly to Luftflotte 6, as leader of the Luftflottrouppen. After he held other command commands, he was transferred to the Führerreserve on August 22, 1943 . But just a month later he took over the 3rd Flieger Division in the central section of the Eastern Front. On February 15, 1944, he was reassigned to the Führerreserve, where he was promoted to major general on March 1, 1944. On July 14, 1944 he became general of the Luftwaffe construction troops with the chief of civil engineering in the Luftwaffe until he retired on April 30, 1945.
