Werner von Houwald

Werner Max-Karl Freiherr von Houwald (born September 15, 1901 in Ulm , † April 14, 1974 at the Hipfelhof near Heilbronn-Frankenbach ) was a German painter.

Career

Werner von Houwald comes from the noble family of the Houwald . He was born the son of the officer Georg von Houwald (1855–1927). At the age of 18 he went to the Kgl. Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, where he studied painting with Adolf Hölzel . His work includes landscapes, portraits and still lifes. In 1945 he co-founded the artist group Der Rote Reiter in Munich .
