The Wesermühlen were several watermills that had existed on the weirs of the Weser in Hameln since the 15th century . Two of them, the Pfort mill and the Werdermühle, developed into large systems at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Today only the Pfortmühle remains. The mills gave their name to the Wesermühle mill of the Kampffmeyer Mühlen group at Hamelin harbor, which was built in 1948 as a large-scale operation .

The mill was initially called the Weser or Fischpfortenmühle, later as the Pfortmühle. It is located in the old town of Hameln. The facility burned down in 1893 and was replaced by the building erected between 1893 and 1895, which is still in existence today and is considered an outstanding industrial monument in the style of historicism . In 1912 the mill was switched to electrical energy. The hydropower plant still preserved today, which consists of a turbine and a generator , dates from this time . In 1975 the Kampffmeyer Group sold the now closed mill to the city of Hameln. After the building was renovated in 1992, it now serves as a library and restaurant, among other things .

Werdermühle

The Werdermühle, which was completed in 1887, was located on the Werder in the Weser. It went back to a mill on the Werder that had existed since 1635. Shortly after completion, there was a dust explosion in 1887 , which was one of the first major accidents of its kind in flour mills. It claimed eleven lives and destroyed a wing of the building. In the last days of the Second World War , the mill was destroyed during acts of war in April 1945. Until 2017, there was a hydropower plant at this point that had been out of operation for years. The hydropower plant was demolished in 2017 and the excavation pit partially filled.
