This is a list of weather records describing the most extreme occurrences of various meteorological phenomena. However, they only represent the highest and lowest actually measured occurrences of these phenomena. Before the invention of modern meteorological instruments, these could possibly have been higher or lower.

  • The largest hailstone ever recorded on the North American continent was found in the US state of South Dakota. According to the official data of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration , the largest hailstone had a diameter of 20.32 and a circumference of 47.29 centimeters, its weight was 875 grams.

  • In some parts of Central Africa, especially in the Republic of the Congo , more than 70 lightning bolts strike one square kilometer every year.
