Wharekawa Harbor is a natural harbor on the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island of New Zealand .

The Wharekawa Harbor is located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula with access to the Pacific Ocean . The small settlement of Opoutere is located in the middle section of the natural harbor, which is around 4 km in length and around 680 m at its widest point. The coastline of the elongated water stretches for around 11 km. A headland of sand protrudes into the entrance of the natural harbor from the north, so that the entrance to the water narrows to around 60 m. In addition to some streams, Wharekawa Harbor is mainly fed by the Wharekawa River coming from the west .
The natural harbor, which administratively belongs to the Thames-Coromandel District and the Waikato region, can be reached via the New Zealand State Highway 25 , which passes around 1.5 km to the west.
