White Trash Beautiful is the fourth studio album by the American rapper and singer Everlast . It was released on May 25, 2004 on the labels Island , Def Jam and Universal and reached number 12 in Germany , where it was most successful. background

In an interview with laut.de , which was published on May 14, 2004, Everlast said that after Warner Bros. Entertainment bought the Tommy Boy label , with which he was under contract, he did not work with Warner and therefore wanted to get out of his still valid contracts prematurely. It would have taken his lawyers a long time to be able to release him from the contracts. He also revealed that many of the fans knew the songs weeks before the album was released and expressed his displeasure against illegal downloads.

Cover

Everlast is sitting in front of a trailer that looks a bit chaotic. He's wearing dark sunglasses, a black sweat jacket, dark blue jeans and brown shoes, and he's also wearing a chain around his neck. He has a guitar in his hands and a dog rests at his feet. A bridge can be seen in the background, which could be an elevated railway or motorway bridge. The cover is intended to allude to the so-called “ white trash ” people who predominantly live or have to live in similar conditions as shown on the cover, the “ trailer parks ”.

Eberhard Dobler from laut.de wrote that Everlast sounds like "he never was gone" with White Trash Beautiful and four years after the previous album Eat at Whitey’s . The album ties in seamlessly with its predecessor, so Everlast doesn't sound new, "rather completely renewed" . His songs are honest and "hit the heart and head of the listener deeply" . He raps about difficulties that life would cause one and never loses hope. He praised Everlast's, in his opinion, successful mix of different genres.

Allmusic's Johnny Loftus praised the “effective” mix of hip-hop and blues. Everlast sounds "confident" , even if some of his songs contain topics about unhappy love relationships.

Steve Juon of RapReviews believes that hip-hop plays a minor role in White Trash Beautiful “figuratively and literally” . He criticized Everlast's lyrics on the song The Warning , where rapping was "out of place" , but found more positive words on the song Ticking Away , where Everlast comes closest to his lyrical skills, but mostly his rap days are " counted " . Alluding to the last song on the album, which is called Maybe (German: Maybe) , Juon wrote in conclusion that it might be Everlast's “calling” to sing from now on and that his fans from the very beginning might be willing “to go along with this to go to him ” .
