The Life Acoustic is the seventh studio album by the American rapper and singer Everlast . It was released on August 27, 2013 via Martyr Inc. The album contains 12 tracks from Everlast's previous albums, all of which have been re-sung by the latter, but in acoustic form. The only accompanying instruments on The Life Acoustic are a guitar and a piano, no other instruments are used.

background

According to Everlast, the idea for The Life Acoustic came after his European tour, during which he performed his pieces acoustically and only accompanied by his guitar. Since the response from the fans was positive and the demand for an acoustic album was high, Everlast ultimately decided to produce The Life Acoustic .

Regarding the songs on the album, Everlast said that the songs he sang again from his previous albums would sound exactly as they were originally created. He explained: “Most of the time I was alone in a room with my guitar, now and then with a colleague who was sitting at the piano. I wrote the songs and developed and arranged them acoustically before I brought them into the studio. ” Everlast said in an interview with motor.de about the selection of pieces: “ They are simply songs that I love. Most of the originals have never been heard on the radio. There are no hits on the album. "

Cover

At the top of the cover you can read “THE LIFE ACOUSTIC” in yellow neon colors, in the middle you can see a portrait of Everlast, he is wearing a turtleneck or a poncho and a cap. This is probably to be seen as a reference to the film Die Tiefseetaucher , which is originally called "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and shows Bill Murray on posters in a similar fashion.

Kai Butterweck from laut.de wrote that The Life Acoustic is no ordinary greatest hits album, instead there are twelve exquisite songs on the album, which Everlast tears the "clothes off" and they "naked as he created them" , present. The focus here is on the acoustics, the songs are reduced to a minimum and sound “more authentic than ever” .

Danny Frischknecht from the Austrian website Stormbringer.at is of the opinion that Everlast would almost reinvent itself on "The Life Acoustic" . Everlast's reinterpretations of his songs and his voice are comparable to the style of Tom Waits or Nick Cave . The opener Sad Girl is to "chill out and hang out with a good glass of wine or a whiskey" . Everlast has "enormous" singer or songwriter qualities, his arrangements are "harmonious and atmospheric" . Frischknecht praises Everlast's voice and describes it as convincing, which is even more pronounced due to the few accompanying instruments. Frischknecht also likes the fact that Everlast announces each song in advance with a title. All in all, The Life Acoustic is a “cool, groovy piece of music that shows other new facets in Everlast's artistic repertoire” .
