history

George Whitefield

FC Cambuslang, founded in 1874, drew fourteen years after its founding club, and a year after the defeat in the cup final of 1888 against FC Renton from Westburn Park in Whitefield Park. The stadium was located in Cambuslang about ten kilometers southeast of Glasgow near the River Clyde .

The new area had a grandstand without a roof on the west side and an earth wall behind the south end of the field. There was also a pavilion in the southwest corner of the property.

Cambuslang was a founding member of the Scottish Football League , and the first league game was played on August 16, 1890 at Whitefield Park against FC Vale of Leven . The game ended in an 8-2 win. On August 23, 1890, John McPherson scored four goals for the Glasgow Rangers at Whitefield Park, the first hat trick in a football league in Scotland. After the club reached fourth place in the 1890/91 season , the club was not re-elected at the general meeting of the Scottish Football League at the end of the 1891/92 season .

Whitefield Park then remained the venue for Cambuslang in the Scottish Football Alliance . In 1897 the association was dissolved.

Nowadays the former stadium is between Croft Road and Hamilton Road. Some of it makes use of the Bowl club "Whitefield Bowling Club". The other half of the former football players' club area is built on with residential buildings.
