Wieland Schmiedel

Wieland Schmiedel (* 1942 in Chemnitz ) is a contemporary German sculptor.

Life

After graduating from high school, Wieland Schmiedel completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor in Dresden and has been working as a master stone sculptor in his own workshop in Crivitz near Schwerin since 1966. In 1969 he became a member of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR and from 1974 to 1975 he was a master student at the Academy of Arts of the GDR with Ludwig Engelhardt . After giving up his craft business, he has been working as a freelancer since 1976. He has created numerous works for the public and the church; Works by his hand can be found in museums in Berlin, Dresden, Schwerin and Oberhausen. In 2009 he was awarded the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Culture Prize for his work.
