The meadows north of Lahr are a protected area according to the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive . The meadows are located about one kilometer north of Lahr , Waldbrunn , Limburg-Weilburg district , Hesse . The 51 hectare area was placed under protection in June 2000.
The reserve is located in the hill country of the South Upper Western Forest . Here it forms a valley open to the south about 300 m above sea level to 340 m above sea level. This is dominated by a wooded ridge with the mountains Stein (390 m above sea level) and Backenscheid (390 m above sea level). The meadows form the source area of the Kerkerbach .
The meager, lowland hay meadows with occurrences of the great meadow button ( Sanguisorba officinalis ) and the meadow foxtail ( Alopecurus pratensis ) are characteristic of the protected status . In the protected area there are populations of the dark ( Maculinea nausithous ) and the light blue butterfly ( Maculinea teleius ).
