Wigand Kahler

Wigand Kahler (born March 27, 1699 in Wollmar ; † November 14, 1747 in Rinteln ) was a German Protestant theologian and mathematician.

Life

Wigand was the son of the judge Johann Hermann Kahler (* 1651 in Wollmar; † March 21, 1719 ibid) and his wife Catharina Antonius (* Wollmar; † November 22, 1712 ibid). After initial basic training in his place of birth, he was trained in Battenberg for two years. On May 5, 1713 he moved to the pedagogy of the University of Giessen , where he studied the philosophical sciences and theology. On October 25, 1716 he moved to the University of Rinteln , where he continued his philosophical and theological training. After he had practiced preaching in Exter, Wollmar, Münchhausen and on the Christenberge, in 1721 he got a job as vice-principal of the council school in Rinteln.

After numerous efforts, he became rector of the educational institution on January 21, 1727. In addition, on April 6, 1727, he received a professorship in logic, metaphysics and poetry at the University of Rinteln. In 1730 he resigned these tasks and on January 28, 1730 became second professor of theology and mathematics at the Rinteln University. On April 12, 1731, he obtained a licentiate in theology in Rinteln, took on the professorship of poetry again on January 2, 1732 and received an honorary doctorate in theology from the University of Göttingen on September 17, 1745 . He also became a member of the German Society in Göttingen .

Kahler married on July 11, 1723 with Dorothea Elisabeth Koch (born September 6, 1701 in Rinteln, † February 21, 1778 in Grove), the daughter of the Rinteln merchant and councilor Conrad Philipp Koch and his wife Margarethe Kiel. The marriage resulted in twelve children:
