Johann Engelhard Kahler

Johann Engelhard Kahler (born October 10, 1729 in Rinteln ; † July 12, 1804 there ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Johann Engelhard was the son of Rinteln theology professor Wigand Kahler . After initial private tuition, he moved to Rinteln University in 1746 to study philosophical and theological sciences. He had completed this in 1752, became a candidate for the ministry and worked as a private tutor in Minden from May 1752. On February 12, 1754 he took over the position of vice principal of the city school in Rinteln. On June 17, 1758 he became the second preacher at St. Nicolaikirche in Rinteln and rose to become the first preacher there in 1762. On September 3, 1768 he became third professor of theology at the Rinteln Ernestina, on March 2, 1773 he received his doctorate in theology there and in 1782 he became second professor of theology there. In connection with this task he was appointed managing superintendent of the Grafschaft Schaumburg and assessor of the consistory. After Gottfried Schwarz died, Kahler took over the superintendent's position full-time, received the title of inspector and consortium councilor and became the first professor of theology in Rinteln.

Kahler married on November 4, 1761 with Friederike Eleonore Reuter (* November 12, 1740 in Lübbecke, † September 22, 1807 in Rinteln), the daughter of the pastor in Lübbecke Hilmar Anton Reuter (also Rüter; * May 16, 1697 in Kleinenbremen ; † October 20, 1772 in Lübbecke) and his wife Charlotte Justina Lucia Wessel, who married on June 25, 1730 in Lübbecke.
