Viktor Grigoryevich Kirillow-Ugrjumow ( Russian Виктор Григорьевич Кириллов-Угрюмов ; born March 18, 1924 in Moscow ; †  November 6, 2007 ibid) was a Russian nuclear physicist and university professor .

Life

Kirillow-Ugrjumow attended Moscow Middle School No. 348 from 1931. After that, he began studying at the Moscow Military Special School. On May 1, 1941, he took part in the parade in Red Square . At the beginning of the German-Soviet War , he reported to the front on June 22, 1941 and was accepted into the Dzerzhinsky Naval Engineering College. On December 12, 1941, he was seriously wounded in the battle near Klin . After three months in the hospital , he was discharged from the army as an invalid in June 1942 .

In 1943 Kirillov-Ugryumov entered the Moscow Mechanics Institute for Ammunition, which later became the Moscow Engineering-Physical Institute (MIFI) and finally the State Nuclear Research University (MIFI). In 1949 he graduated with honors and began the aspirantur . He studied cosmic rays and at the same time worked in the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR) under Artem Alichanjan . In 1953 he successfully defended his candidate dissertation and became dean of the Faculty of Experimental and Theoretical Physics at the MIFI. In 1957 he became deputy head of the chair for experimental nuclear physics and in 1959 director of the MIFI. In 1962 he successfully defended his doctoral thesis and in 1963 became Professor of the Chair of Experimental Physics. His main focus was meson research .

1970–1974 Kirillov-Ugryumow sat on the Rector's Council of Moscow universities. He then headed the Higher Attestation Commission (VAK) for the award of higher academic degrees in the Soviet Union . In 1987 he retired because of his health, but continued to work scientifically at the MIFI as an advisory professor and headed the MIFI's Veterans Council .

Kirillov-Ugryumov died after a long illness.
