Viktor Saveljewitsch Onopko ( Russian Виктор Савельевич Онопко ; born October 14, 1969 in Luhansk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Russian football player .

He played his first international game on April 29, 1992 in Moscow against England for the CIS team , for which he played 3 more games at Euro 92 . Although he was able to play for Ukraine because of his birthplace , he decided to go to Russia after the split up of the Soviet Union . He participated for Russia in the 1994 and 2002 World Championships and the Euro 96 . Onopko was also part of the provisional squad for Euro 2004 , but could not participate due to an injury. In 1993 and 94 he was voted Russia's Footballer of the Year .

Onopko was Russia's record international player until September 8, 2015 .
