Sainte-Rose ( Guadeloupe-Creole : Sentwòz ) with its 118.60 km² is the second largest municipality in terms of area after Petit-Bourg in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe . It has 19,162 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and belongs to the Arrondissement of Basse-Terre . Sainte-Rose is a member municipality and seat of the Communauté d'agglomération du Nord Basse-Terre .

Sainte-Rose is located in the north of the island of Basse-Terre on the coast of the Caribbean Sea . Neighboring communities are Lamentin in the southeast, Pointe-Noire in the southwest and Deshaies in the west.

Tourism is an important economic factor . But the cultivation of sugar cane for the production of rhum agricole , which is made in two local distilleries , also plays a major role.
