Baie-Mahault ( Guadeloupe Creole : Bémao or Bémawo ) is a municipality with 30,929 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe .
geography
Baie-Mahault is located on the eastern side of the island of Basse-Terre on the Rivière Salée strait , which separates the two main islands of Guadeloupe - Basse-Terre in the west and Grande-Terre in the east. Today it is integrated into the agglomeration around Pointe-à-Pitre .
The neighboring communities are Petit-Bourg and Lamentin on Basse-Terre and Pointe-à-Pitre and Les Abymes on Grande-Terre.
The districts of Trioncelle, La Jaille, Calvaire, Moudong, La Retraite, Beausoleil and Wonche belong to Baie-Mahault. The 300 hectare Jarry industrial zone is also located in the south of the municipality .
