Saint-Claude ( Guadeloupe-Creole : Senklòd ) is a French commune with 10,381 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on the island of Basse-Terre in the overseas department of Guadeloupe .

The municipal area extends to the highest mountain in the Lesser Antilles , the 1,467 m high active volcano La Soufrière . With numerous hotels and restaurants , the city is mainly characterized by tourism .
