Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante ( Marie-Galante Creole : Kapestè Marigalant ) is a municipality with 3,301 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe .
geography
Capesterre is located on the southeast coast of the island of Marie-Galante on the Caribbean Sea . The community has a share in the island's mountain range, the Mornes . The highest point, the Morne constant in the north of the municipality, is 204 m. ü. M.
history
The name Cabesterre is known from the 17th century . The place is exposed to strong winds due to its location . The castle, which once stood to protect the settlement, was damaged in 1928 and was subsequently reconstructed.
