Vieux-Habitants ( Guadeloupe Creole : Zabitan ) is a municipality with 7210 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on the Côte sous le vent , a coast on the Caribbean Sea on the island of Basse-Terre . One valley is the Vallée de Grand-Rivière . Vieux-Habitants has a share in the Guadeloupe National Park . The northern neighboring municipality is Bouillante . The settlement was founded in 1636 and was then called Habitants . Today tourism and agriculture play important roles. Above all coffee is grown.
