Petit-Bourg ( Guadeloupe Creole : Ti Bou or Tibou ) is a municipality with 24,277 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe .
geography
Petit-Bourg is located on the island of Basse-Terre , one of the two main islands of Guadeloupe. The municipality is bordered by the municipalities of Goyave in the south, Vieux-Habitants in the southwest, Bouillante in the west and Pointe-Noire , Lamentin and Baie-Mahault in the north. To the east, the municipality borders the Petit cul de sac marin bay .
The main road N 1 between Pointe-à-Pitre and the town of Basse-Terre runs through the municipality, bypassing the buildings to the west .
history
Petit-Bourg - "small town" - had its origins in 1643, when Charles Houël , the dispatcher of the French Compagnie des îles d'Amérique , the American island company, founded various villages in this region.

Attractions
- The Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption church dates from 1931 and was built according to the design of the architect Ali Tur.
- Petit-Bourg has a share in the Valombreuse Natural Park and in the Guadeloupe National Park . The Saut de la Lézarde is a well-known waterfall . It is - surrounded by a tropical forest - more than ten meters high and is formed by a stream called Lézarde.
