Ernest Cabo

Ernest Mesmin Lucien Cabo (born December 15, 1932 in Sainte-Rose on the island of Guadeloupe, † November 28, 2019 in Basse-Terre ) was a French clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre .

Life

Ernest Cabo studied philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary in La Croix-Valmer and Toulouse . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre on October 4, 1964 . He was pastor of Capesterre-Belle-Eau and chaplain of the Movement for Rural Youth (MRJC), the Movement of Christian Youth Workers (JOC) and the Christian PTT movement. In 1972 he became pastor of Sacré-Coeur in Pointe-à-Pitre , the largest city in the French overseas department of Guadeloupe .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Bocconia and auxiliary bishop in Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre on July 2, 1983 . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in the Bahamas , Barbados , Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago , Paul Fouad Naïm Tabet , on November 6 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Gordon Anthony Pantin CSSp , Archbishop of Port of Spain , and Siméon Oualli , Bishop of Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre.

On July 2, 1984, he was appointed Bishop of Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre. On May 15, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
